The 2019 Flotsam is made from 100% Cabernet Franc, cultivated biodynamically in the Anjou area of the Loire Valley. Produced only in the 2019 vintage, it comes from young vines and is vinified using semi-carbonic maceration and whole-cluster direct pressing. It was aged for 12 months in wooden barrels.
In the glass, it shows a medium ruby color with good transparency. On the nose, it offers a medium intensity, where an initial ethereal and solvent-like character gives way over time to a noticeable volatile acidity. Beneath, crisp red fruit notes of cherry and strawberry emerge, accompanied by delicate floral hints of rose petals.
On the palate, the wine is light-bodied with medium, silky tannins and vibrant acidity. It leans slightly toward hardness, and has a medium finish.
This is a Cabernet Franc that breaks the mold: fresh, vibrant, and meant to be enjoyed young, ideally slightly chilled at around 13°C.
