Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC Riserva by Masciarelli is made from 100% Montepulciano grapes grown in San Martino sulla Marrucina (CH), Abruzzo. It is aged for 18–24 months in new barriques, followed by at least 2 years in bottle.
In the glass, it shows an impenetrable ruby red color with garnet highlights. Swirling reveals a very high consistency, with slow, dense legs.
The nose is intense, complex, and of excellent quality. Ripe black fruit notes (black cherry, plum) are followed by sweet spices (vanilla, cocoa), tobacco, leather, licorice, and balsamic nuances. Its well-developed bouquet reveals a clear aging potential.
On the palate, it is warm, smooth, and full-bodied. The tannins are dense yet silky, perfectly integrated. A slight sapid note enhances the aromatic expression. Excellent freshness and a long, lingering finish with returning fruit and spice. Impeccable balance between structure, aromatic intensity, alcohol, and acidity.
A true classic from central Italy and one of the finest expressions of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. Villa Gemma Riserva 2019 stands out for its structure, elegance, and depth—perfect for special occasions or as a collector’s bottle.
