Chorey-les-Beaune AOC – Vielles Vignes 2023 – Domaine Rapet Père & Fils

Chorey-les-Beaune Vieilles Vignes 2023 from Domaine Rapet Père & Fils is a beautifully pure and accessible Pinot Noir from the northern reaches of the Côte de Beaune, just north of Beaune itself and adjacent to Aloxe-Corton. While the appellation remains modest compared to its prestigious neighbors, it consistently delivers elegant, fruit-driven wines — particularly in the hands of a long-established family estate like Rapet, which has been rooted in the region since the 18th century.

The grapes for this cuvée come from old vines planted in the flat, gravel-rich soils east of the village. These soils tend to produce wines with supple texture and generous fruit, and in 2023 — a vintage marked by freshness and balance — this expression is especially vibrant. Fermentation took place in stainless steel to preserve aromatics, followed by aging in French oak barrels, with a restrained use of new oak to gently frame the fruit without overpowering it.

In the glass, the wine shows a clear, youthful medium ruby color.

The nose opens with lifted aromas of red cherry, raspberry, and cranberry, alongside floral tones of violet and rose. Subtle hints of spice, forest floor, and lightly toasted oak add complexity.

On the palate, it is dry, with bright acidity, fine-grained tannins, and a light to medium body. The fruit is crisp and expressive, with a mineral edge and a long, delicate finish.

This 2023 release is approachable now for its energy and charm, yet it will gain further nuance over the next 5–6 years.
