The Ottouve by Martusciello is a unique wine from the DOC Penisola Sorrentina, crafted to highlight the native grape varieties and the distinctiveness of the region. Its name, “Ottouve,” refers to the eight indigenous grape varieties used in its production: Piedirosso, Aglianico, Sciascinoso, Suppezza, Castagnara, Olivella, Sauca, and Surbegna.
Described by Mario Soldati in Vino al Vino as “dense yet slippery, like a fuller-bodied Lambrusco or a lighter Barbera,” this ruby-red wine with purple hues forms a striking white foam when poured.
The nose reveals intense aromas of fresh red fruits like strawberry, raspberry, and cherry, complemented by floral notes of rose and violet.
On the palate, it is sparkling, medium-bodied, and balanced, with crisp acidity and slight sapidity. Flavors of pomegranate and a pleasant minerality emerge, leading to a medium-length finish.
This high-quality wine pairs perfectly with the region’s iconic dish: pizza.
